DPP's post is re-advertised

The post of Director of Public Prosecutions is being advertised again, just two months after Kulandra Ratneser was appointed to act in the post.

When he took over as a "caretaker" in March, the Sri Lankan-born Australian citizen said he would stay on until the Governor finds a permanent postholder at which point he will return to his full-time job as senior counsel and head of the commercial litigation department of Lynda Milligan-Whyte and Associates.

Mr. Ratneser took over from Bermudian Khamisi Tokunbo who did not reapply when his three-year contract came to an end.

Applicants for the $127,000 a year post must have ten years under their belt as advocates or solicitors in a Commonwealth jurisdiction. The deadline for applications is May 7.

Teen still missing

Police are appealing for information on a missing teenager who has not been seen for more than two weeks.

Nakiska Amber Robinson, 14, was last seen at Berkeley Institute on the morning of Monday, April 14. She is known to frequent the White Hill area of Southampton and is described as five foot three inches tall, light skinned, weighing about 130 pounds, with amber hair and eyes.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts should call the Police Juvenile and Domestic Crime Unit on 299-4280.

Harbouring a juvenile is an offence punishable under the law.

Plane diverted

A plane was diverted to the Island on Wednesday after a pregnant woman began suffering difficulties.

Continental flight 1942 was en route to Puerto Rico from New York when the woman, who was four months pregnant, began complaining of bleeding and cramps in her stomach.

She was conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was reported as resting comfortably on Thursday afternoon.

Cylinders stolen

Police attended a Flatts Village property on Thursday afternoon to investigate a report of stealing.

Shortly before 2 p.m. that day the complainant told Police someone broke on to the property and stole two barbecue propane cylinders and an extension ladder. The complaint is under investigation.

Hat show tomorrow

The Sunshine League will tomorrow hold its annual charity tea party and hat fashion show.

About 400 people are expected to turn out to the Harbourview Ballroom at Hamilton Princess on Sunday for the afternoon of entertainment, which starts at 2 p.m. and lasts until 5 p.m.

Tickets costs $25 and include high tea, the hat fashion show, with hats provided by a number of stores around Bermuda, and entertainment.

People are advised to buy tickets prior to the event, so numbers can be catered for, and they are available from 27th Century Boutique on Burnaby Street, Hamilton, and the People's Pharmacy on Victoria Street.

Those attending are asked to wear their Sunday best, including fancy hats and gloves.

Machine robbed

A thief emptied a gaming machine of its coins at Woody's Bar, Sandys sometime between 9 p.m and midnight on Saturday.
