A 21-year-old man was left with cuts and bruising to his face after he was kicked in the head by a group of men on Friday night.

The Sandys Parish man was walking with a friend along Reid Street near the junction with King Street when two cars drove past and the occupants in the car made derogatory comments to them.

The two cars drove off but then returned and the group of men got out of the cars.

They assaulted the 21-year-old man, kicking him in the head and body. The victim's friend was able to escape on foot.

The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he received treatment for cuts and bruises. He received five stitches to his left eyebrow and five stitches to his nose.

Four men were later arrested in connection with the incident and taken to Hamilton Police Station where they were detained.

Taken for a ride

A man who took a ride from a stranger on a motorcycle was robbed of $215 over the weekend.

The victim, a visitor to the Island, was standing at the bus shelter on South Road near Devil's Hole at around 1.50 p.m. when he was approached by a man on a motorcycle.

The man offered him a ride to the City of Hamilton. The victim accepted but after travelling for a short distance decided to stop and see more sights in the area.

The motorcycle driver stopped and when the man offered to give him money for his assistance the culprit grabbed the cash. The culprit escaped on his motorcycle with the money.

The victim described the man as a black male, about 6ft, slimly built and clean shaven. He was wearing a black helmet, a cap, jacket, shorts, dark sunglasses and was smoking a thin cigar.

The motorcycle was an old brown cycle with a metal basket and a white registration plate.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the St. George's Criminal Investigation Unit at 297-1122.

Guest property targeted

About $215 was stolen from a Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke guest property on Thursday afternoon.

Police arrived at the guest house at 9.20 p.m. and spoke to the complainant who said that sometime between 2.30 p.m. and 3.45 p.m. an unknown person stole money from his room.

*A Paget guest property was broken into and $400 stolen on Wednesday night.

The complainants stated to Police that an unknown culprit gained entry to their room and stole the cash sometime during the evening.

Rude awakening

A thief escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash after breaking into a couple's room while they were sleeping.

He entered the Warwick Guest property at about 5.40 a.m. on Wednesday and is described as white, between 5ft 11in and 6ft 1in and slimly built. He was wearing dark pants, a light shirt and a light baseball cap. His victims were visitors.
