Sick seaman evacuated to Bermuda

Bermuda Harbour Radio assisted the US Coast Guard in an evacuation of an injured crew member 300 miles south of Bermuda.

The 59-year-old Dutch man reportedly suffered serious chest pains while aboard the vehicle Cold Stream 300 on Monday.

A US Coast Guard C130 aircraft and a US Coast Guard helicopter flew to Bermuda to refuel before evacuating the injured man from his vessel. The man was lifted from the vessel by the helicopter using a winch.

The two aircraft returned to Bermuda where the man was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The C130 aircraft returned to its base in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The helicopter left the Island for the US yesterday afternoon.
