Waterlot to be turned into steakhouse

The Waterlot Inn's days are numbered - the Fairmont Southampton Princess plans to convert the dockside restaurant into a steakhouse, general manager Alan Trew confirmed yesterday.

However, “plans have not been finalised”, he added. More information will be available from the hotel's food and beverage director in the New Year, he said.

The restaurant has been established in Bermuda as a place of fine dining and entertainment for years. It has drawn chefs from around the world, including from New York's famed Rainbow Room.

The Fairmont Southampton Princess has four other restaurants: the Whaler Inn, the Newport Room, the Rib Room, and Wickets.

Free festive dinners

Free Christmas dinners for the homeless and needy will be given out on Thursday.

Organiser Derek Hamlin said he hoped 100 people would enjoy the dinners between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Involved in the project is the Smile Foundation (Students Making an Impact through Learning Experiences), the Central Church of Christ and the Boys' Choir of Bermuda.

Local organisations donating food include the Hamilton Princess, Lindo's, MarketPlace, Dunkley's Dairy and Miles Supermarket.

Mr. Hamlin said other organisations will be carrying out a similar initiative on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

“We wanted to target a date when people are most sensitive.”

He said the dinner had been running for about three years but would now be done in honour of his mother, who died last year, who did something similar in Baltimore for 25 years.
