A man facing a 91-kph speeding charge who was late for his court appearance was ordered to pay $500 in forfeited bail on Friday.

Kent Lowe, 36, of Vesey Street, Devonshire, also pleaded guilty in Magistrates? Court to driving while impaired on another occasion and was hit with a $1,000 fine and 12 months off the road.

Crown counsel Shade Subair told the court that Lowe was seen by Police in July of last year, riding with a passenger who was not wearing a helmet.

Lowe sped away from the officers. The passenger on the back of the cycle escaped near Dundonald Street, but Lowe still refused to stop and led Police on a high speed chase. He was caught on an alley on Princess Street and was taken to Hamilton Police Station.

Lowe was breath tested and a reading revealed that he was over twice the legal limit, with 195 millilitres in 100 millilitres of blood.
