A neighbour's dog alerted a sleeping man to an intruder yesterday morning. A black purse containing an unidentified amount of cash was stolen from the Paddock Drive, Warwick home.

The complainant was woken up by the neighbour's dog barking and got up to check his property.

He noticed that someone had broken in and taken a black purse and that the thief had searched around the house.

Later the complainant search the property surrounding his house and found the black purse with the cash missing from it.

Workman, 20, improving after fall

The condition of a 20-year-old who was airlifted to a Baltimore hospital after a fall in Tucker's Town is improving.

The workman fell 15 feet from a ladder, and was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment. His condition was listed as critical until Sunday night, when a spokesperson for the hospital said he was in stable condition.

The spokesperson could give no other information at that time.

Sailor's body to be brought ashore tomorrow

The body of a sailor who died at sea is to be brought ashore tomorrow.

The Greek-registered bulk carrier Lake Superior will be met at Five Fathom Hole by local Police, a coroner and an agent for the vessel. Joe Semos of Meyer Agencies said he was not at liberty to say how the crewman died but explained that the Coroner will conduct an investigation onboard and will have to give the OK for the vessel to continue on its voyage.

Lake Superior is travelling from Liverpool, England and is bound for Mississippi carrying scrap metal.

Another ship in the same Greek fleet, MV Panamax Strength has run into technical difficulty. The bulk carrier with a shipment of phosphates on board is bound for the Mississippi River.

A technician will fly in from Greece while spare parts have already landed. The technician and spare parts will be taken to meet MV Panamax Strength about seven miles at sea with local launches at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Number change for British Consulate-General

The British Consulate-General in New York has notified Bermuda that the new telephone number for contacting the office for information on visas has changed. The new number is 1-212-745-0362. The direct line will be manned at all times during office hours.

If an operator is not available, callers will be instructed to leave a message, including a telephone number. All messages will be dealt with on the same day. The new number is exclusively for the use of residents of the Bahamas, Central America and Bermuda.

The British Consulate in New York handles visa applications from anyone in Bermuda who requires a visa to enter the United Kingdom.

Police stop cyclist riding without helmet

A 55-year-old Devonshire man was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired after being caught riding without a helmet.

Early yesterday morning Police noticed a man riding a motorcycle along Parsons Road, Pembroke without a helmet.

When he was stopped Police noticed he could not stand up straight and reeked of alcohol.
