Man brutally beaten

A 54-year-old man was brutally beaten by two masked men as he lay asleep in his house yesterday morning. The two intruders broke into the Bakery Lane, Pembroke home and woke up the man by punching him in the head and body and then made demands for cash.

They stole an undisclosed amount of money and escaped on a red Yamaha cycle.

The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital were he was treated.

Police are asking for anyone with information to call 295-0011 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-623-8477.

Break-ins on rise

Police have noticed an increase in break-ins at homes in the central parishes.

Warwick, Paget, Pembroke and Devonshire have recently been hardest hit, a Press release said. Many of the homes were not locked making it easy for intruders to gain entry. Police warned residents to secure their homes and valuables.

Teen released on bail

An 18 year old was charged with the importation and possession with intent to supply of undisclosed amounts of cocaine, heroin and cannabis in plea court yesterday.

Gavon Phillip Hollis, of Cottage Hill, Hamilton Parish, was not required to enter a plea as the six charges are indictable offences and will be tried in Supreme Court. The charges were alleged to have taken place on September 28.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner released Hollis on $10,000 bail with a like surety. He was also required to surrender all his travel documents.

Hollis will reappear in plea court for mention on October 12.
