Alleged shoplifter nabbed

There is a cost to looking good, a shoplifter will soon learn.

Police media spokesperson Dwayne Caines said a shoplifting incident at the Shelly Bay MarketPlace last week resulted in officers being called to the scene.

The culprit was seen placing a bottle of hair dye into a bag brought into the store. Once out of the supermarket, the offender was approached by staff and escorted to the office.

Police were then called in.

Housebreaker questioned

A thief who stole cheques from someone who knew him, then forged and cashed one of them, is undergoing questioning by Police.

A Warwick resident reported to Police that sometime between last Thursday and Friday it was discovered that some cheques were missing and that one of them had been forged and cashed.

Camping season spoiled for one family

Camping equipment worth $635 was reported stolen from a Hamilton Parish home last week.

The owner of a home on Abbott's Cliff Drive told officers that a tent valued at $475, a fold-up table worth $100 and a $60 camping stove were all removed from a storage room outside the house. The complainant told officers the theft would have taken place sometime between June 25 and June 27.

Supermarket 'booster' sought by Police

A shoplifter who was seen taking a beverage from a fridge at the A1 Supermarket in Paget last week is being sought by Police.

The culprit placed the beverage in a bag at an unattended register and left the store where a manager confronted him. A scuffle ensued and the thief threw the bottled beverage at the manager before fleeing the scene.

Purse nicked

A purse full of cash and credit cards was stolen from a Cavendish Cove, Devonshire residence on Sunday.

According to Police, the complainants said they left the house at 11 a.m. on Sunday and returned that evening to find the black bag missing, along with credit and debit cards, driver's licenses a chequebook and $90 and ?200 in cash.

Gas station robbed

Thousands of dollars worth of phone cards and cigarettes were stolen from the Shell Gas Station at Village Gate in Pembroke over the weekend.

Police said the person gained entry to the store between Saturday night and Sunday morning by chiselling out a lock from the door.

The person then took approximately 100 phone cards, valued at $2,500, and ten cartons of cigarettes.

Food stolen

Hundreds of dollars worth of food was stolen from the Pony Racing Stadium on Vesey Street in Devonshire some time during the last week.

Police said the assailant gained entry through a flap door and removed several items from the freezer at some point between Monday and Sunday.

Drink driver nabbed

Police stopped an impaired bike rider on Garden Lane in Paget on Sunday evening after he whizzed past them at a dangerous speed.

According to officers, the man travelled through the South roundabout at Rural Hill at speed and when they gave chase, he jammed on his brakes, turned into Garden Lane and then fell off his cycle.

He was arrested and failed a breathalyser test at Hamilton Police Station.
