Cyclist in critical condition

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 21-year-old Warwick man was involved in a serious road accident. The man remains in critical condition.

Police were called to Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction of Keith Hall Road, at 3.10 a.m. on Saturday.

The young man was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with serious head injuries. Details of the accident remain unclear and Police are appealing for witnesses.

Two homes burgled

Jewellery was stolen during a break-in at an apartment in Footbridge Lane, Pembroke, on Thursday. The burglary happened between 8.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m.

The previous day a tan leather handbag containing cash and personal items was stolen from a home in Glenwood Park, Crescent, Warwick. Anyone with information should call Police on 295-0011.

Parolee had stolen goods

A persistent offender told a court on Friday he had no idea that items he bought from a friend — including hundreds of dollars worth of perfume — were stolen.

Kawesi Wilson, who admitted four counts of receiving stolen goods and one of dishonestly obtaining goods, said he purchased the bottles of Armani Diamonds perfume and other items from pal Jason Liburd as he and his lady friend were "going through some issues".

In addition to the perfume and some Armani aftershave from Gibbons Company, Wilson, whose address was not given in court, pleaded guilty to receiving a Honda Scoopy bike; a licence plate; a webcam and a USB adapter from Leisure Time; and dishonestly obtaining a razor worth $25 from People's Pharmacy.

The court heard that Wilson, 34, who breached parole by committing the offences, had at least ten previous convictions for dishonesty.

He said: "I had no idea these items were stolen. The person I bought them from, I couldn't imagine him going into a shop and stealing items. I find it amazing that I'm here for these charges. I'm stunned and amazed because the one time I didn't steal the items, it just blows my mind, that's why I'm here."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner told him: "The story that you have given is a ridiculous story."

He sentenced him to three years in prison for each of the four charges of receiving goods, to run concurrently.

The sentence will begin after Wilson has served his current term on December 13.

Have you lost a floodlight?

Police are searching for the owners of a 1,500 watt floodlight which was seized during a raid in Smith's last month.

Officers have made inquiries with the Island's sports clubs but have so far been unable to find the rightful owner of the large silver light, which is attached to a box marked 'Hubbell'.

Man denies supplying drugs

A 29-year-old man on Friday denied possession of cocaine with intent to supply at Magistrates' Court.

Sahki Weeks, of Friswell's Hill, Devonshire, also denied possession of cannabis.

Both offences are alleged to have happened in Pembroke on June 22, 2006.

Weeks opted for a trial at Magistrates' Court and the matter was adjourned until Thursday (February 14). He was remanded in custody until then.

Woman found with drug pipe

A female prisoner was fined $100 in Magistrates' Court on Friday after she admitted possessing drug equipment.

Prosecutor Paula Tyndale said a plastic sandwich bag, orange straw and medium-sized bottle, converted to a pipe, were found on Tayna Smith when she was in custody at Hamilton Police Station.

The items were analysed and traces of cocaine were found. Unemployed Smith, 41, whom the court heard was on remand for a similar offence, was fined $100 or ten days in jail.
