Bermuda CableVision say good progress is being made restoring service but the company has again failed to say how many customers are still suffering blank screens or when the misery would end.

Operations Manager Alan Smith said most customers were back on after Hurricane Fabian but crews were working on main lines in Southampton and Sandys as well as the eastern side of Hamilton parish.

Street by street checks are being carried out in the west side of Warwick and Southampton and then CableVision will complete Sandys.

Small crews are sweeping through St. George?s, Smith?s Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget and Warwick.

Mr. Smith said customers in areas where street by street checks have been completed who are still without service should e-mail to infocablevision.bm, fax to 295 3023 or call on 292 5544.

He added: ?Any customer still without service when they have received a late payment notice should not be concerned, they will not be charged late fees. These are standard, computer-generated notices.

?Those customers who wish to request additional credits should contact our offices once their services is restored so we can issue a one-time credit. To avoid wait times during peak calling hours customers can send us an e-mail or fax.

?Thanks again to our customers and also to our staff for their hard work and long hours.?

A total of $450 was stolen from two homes on Tuesday along with jewellery and a television.

The first theft took place between 7 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. after an unknown culprit broke into the Cedar Lane, Sandys home. Jewellery, $100 and approximately 30 CDs were taken.

The second incident occurred at a Harrington Sound, Hamilton parish home between 9.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m.

The complainant told Police that the culprit gained entry into the pool house and stole a silver-coloured television and $350 in cash.

Inquiries into both incidents are currently underway.

A have-a-go hero was forced to back off after being threatened by a knife-wielding robber.

The incident took place at the Empire Grocery on North Shore Road in Devonshire on Tuesday morning after a man entered the store and asked the 68-year-old cashier for a half litre of Smirnoff Vodka and a half litre of Bacardi Gold.

The man then grabbed the bottles without paying and ran out of the store with the manger in pursuit.

When the 34-year-old manager confronted the robber he pulled out a six-inch knife and threatened her before escaping on a motorcycle towards Spanish Point.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 ft. 9in. tall and weighing about 170 pounds.

He was wearing black track pants, a black sleeveless shirt, a white helmet and clear glasses and had a goatee beard.

The Bermuda Telephone Company is advising its business customers that scheduled maintenance on its Hamilton ATM network will be conducted this weekend.

The maintenance work will begin tomorrow at midnight and is expected to take less than an hour to complete. If anyone experiences problems beyond the scheduled maintenance period, they are asked to call 711.

Film stars Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have donated the proceeds of a court settlement to the Island?s Family Learning Centre.

The couple, who live in Bermuda, were awarded ?14,600 ? about $24,220 ? after suing ?Hello!? magazine for printing unauthorised photographs of their wedding.

Family Learning Centre executive director Martha Dismont said that she was pleased with the donation.

She said: ?I met Michael Douglas at the opening of Aqua earlier this year when we were one of the charities that were being awarded funds during the opening.

?At that time Mr. Douglas said that he was interested in supporting the organisation in any way that he could.

?He called me this morning and in his own quiet way told me of the donation. We are just grateful for the help.?

A man was asleep in his living room when an unknown culprit stole $100 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Spanish Heights Estate, Smith?s Parish resident told Police that at some time between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. someone gained entry into his home while he was asleep and stole the cash.

Also on Wednesday, Police received a report that a purse containing a Samsung cellular phone, an undisclosed amount of cash and other personal items was stolen from a Peppercorn Lane, Southampton home.

The complainant said that some time between 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday and 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday someone broke into his home taking the purse with the phone and money.

On Wednesday night the Police spoke with the complainants of a Fiddlewood Drive, Warwick home who said that some time between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday an unknown culprit gained entry into their home taking $330 in cash.
