Alana Fischer, a Primary Two student at Bermuda High School for Girls, is the 2006 winner of the Belco Bird Kite Safety Poster Competition.

Yesterday, the Belco Bird presented Alana with a $500 grand prize donation for her school.

Alana also received a special Bermuda-made kite for winning the contest.

Alana?s poster was chosen as Best Overall from all of the entries sent to Belco from Primary One and Primary Two students.

The art competition is just one part of Belco?s 20-year-old annual Kite Safety Campaign to promote safe kite making and flying.

Earlier this month Belco Kiteman Cornell Dunkley and another Belco representative visited each of the Island?s 25 Primary Schools.

This year more than 1,700 Primary One and Primary Two students enjoyed the Belco Bird Kite Safety Slide Show followed by an electrical safety talk and demonstration of linesmen?s gear by Mr. Dunkley.

Belco?s Kite Safety Campaign winds up on Good Friday, when the Belco Bird will visit safe kite flying locations around the Island.
