Bierman's plans cement facility
The owner of Bierman's Concrete Products has followed through with his promise to apply for a bulk cement storage facility.
Michael Bierman sought in-principle Planning permission on March 16 to add a bulk cement storage facility at No. 25, Lolly's Well Road, Smith's.
"Given recent disruptions in the availability of cement in the Island and uncertainty regarding the reliability of future supplies, our client proposes to provide additional bulk cement storage under the previously approved retail outlet," architect Derek Mitchell told Planning in the application on March 14.
Mr. Bierman said last week said his company used a lot of bulk cement.
"We have lost a tremendous amount of productivity due to shortages in the last few months," Mr. Bierman said. "We want to protect our own future."
Approximately 5,000 tons of cement are proposed to be stored underneath an already approved retail outlet for building products near Harrington Sound Road.
"The proposed storage facility of course involves no additional site cover and complies with the established industrial use rights applicable to this property," Mr. Mitchell said in the application.
