Birthday celebration ends in car crash

A man who was so drunk he was repeatedly vomiting over himself was banned from the roads for a year on Friday.

Magistrates' Court heard how Rolando Amoranto, 46, of Tucked Away, Southampton, crashed his car into a wall in Devonshire in August this year after celebrating a friend's birthday.

When Police arrived at the scene, they found Amoranto in the car with the door open, but unable to get out.

He was repeatedly vomiting over himself.

An ambulance arrived and Amoranto was checked over, but he refused to go to hospital for further assessment. He was taken to Hamilton Police station where he told Police he had been drinking wine and beer at a friend's birthday party.

He said he was not used to drinking and was tired after working that day.

In court on Friday, he said: "If you can give me a chance because I'm living in Southampton and working in Smith's Parish and it will be hard on me to get to work."

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves banned Amoranto from the roads for a year and fined him $1,000.

He said: "You are going to have to get up early to catch the ferry."
