Bermuda Industrial Union Leader Derrick Burgess has slammed the management of Bermuda Aviation Services (BAS/Serco) for refusing to renegotiate a pay deal with workers which ran out 18 months ago.

He said the company took money from the Government but were refusing offers to meet with Government's labour relations officers to sort out the dispute with the partly-foreign owned company.

He said: “It has a contract worth millions of dollars from the Government, that's taxpayer's money, but they won't come to the table.

“That's disrespectful to everybody in this country. Anyone who comes into the country should cooperate.”

The dispute was part of the reason BIU members marched in Hamilton's streets in February during a one-day strike.

A frustrated Mr. Burgess said he had written to the Premier to get her assistance.

However Labour Minister Terry Lister was staying out of the dispute. He declined to comment about the case to The Royal Gazette and said there were two sides to the argument.

The company also declined the chance to comment.
