BMA throws curve(s) at coin collectors

Coin collecting might have just become sexy as five new curvy figures have been launched. The Bermuda Monetary Authority yesterday announced the issue which commemorates the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Bermuda by Juan de Bermudez in 1505. The coins are the first in Bermuda to be issued with a five-lobed shape. They are available in silver, piedfort and gold.

The front design of each depicts the portrait by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley of the Queen in profile. The back features a sailing ship in the centre of a compass superimposed on the map of Bermuda. The silver coin?s retail price is $45. The piedfort coins will retail for $85 and the gold version of the coin, which is due to arrive by the end of May, will have a maximum mintage of 1,000 and retail for $550.
