The owner of the capsized boat Everest Horizontal arrived on the Island yesterday hoping to find his 50-foot yacht.

And he is also desperate to find a pilot with a plane to help him in his search.

“I'm really hoping that someone who owns a plane on the Island will be able to go out and spot the boat for us and then let us know on VHF radio where they've seen it. I'm really desperate at this point and it would save us a lot of time and I would be extremely appreciative,” Tim Kent said yesterday.

The boat was last spotted 115 miles north-northwest of Bermuda by a sailboat participating Marion to Bermuda race on Tuesday.

The Everest capsized after part of the keep broke off. Mr. Kent, 50, and Richard McKenna, 39, were rescued by the cruise ship Nordic Empress at the weekend. Mr. Kent had just completed the Around Alone race and had started the second leg of a race to Newport, Rhode Island when the boat capsized.

Fellow Around Alone sailor Alan Paris arranged for the fishing boat Evening Star to take Mr. Kent out to the area where he believes his boat is located.

If the mission is successful, Mr. Kent intends to bring Everest back to the Island.

“We're going to tow the boat back to Bermuda and then we'll see if the engine will start up. If not, I'll put an outboard engine on it. The inside is going to be smelly and an awful mess so I'll clean it out and then motor to Charleston, South Carolina where most of the prep work for the Around Alone race was done,” Mr. Kent said.
