Boat parade refuses to sink

The Boat Parade is not sunk yet, with organisers declaring the show will go on this Sunday, December 19.

Originally scheduled for this past Saturday evening, the parade was cancelled due to gale force winds and rescheduled for last night. Rain ? both unpleasant for spectators and, again, a safety issue considering the amount of generators in use ? forced a cancellation last night also.

Parade spokesperson Ian Coles said yesterday the parade will take place on Sunday, however.

There were problems with holding the parade on Saturday, December 18, he said. ?But Sunday was wide open.?

Should bad weather force a cancellation again, however, ?that will probably be it for the Boat Parade this year,? Mr. Coles admitted.

It is difficult to hold the parade during the week, with participants needing time to set their boats up, he explained.

Hopes are high for the parade, fireworks and all, to go ahead on Sunday, starting at 6 p.m.

There were due to be 62 entries, Mr. Coles said.

?We expect the vast majority to still be there, and we?ll probably pick up one or two more over the next week.?
