The Bermuda Public Service Union has called on Government to reveal the entire contents of the damning Kurron report on Bermuda?s hospitals.

Released 11 days ago ? a year after it was ready ? the report highlighted mismanagement, millions of wasted dollars and lapses threatening the safety of patients and staff.

BPSU General Secretary Ed Ball was asked for comment on the report but said it was impossible until he saw the full details.

Last week Bermuda Hospitals Board chairman Jonathan Brewin indicated the full report, which contains around 250 detailed points, would be released soon but it was the hands of the Health Minister, Patrice Minors, who is currently off the Island.

Mr. Ball said: ?I cannot comment on the report until I have seen it, That?s the one that most people want to see. The synopsis doesn?t say anything.?

He said the Minister owed it to hospital staff to release all the information.

Last week Premier Alex Scott pledged Government would shake off its reputation for secretiveness and endorsed the principle that the public had a right to know.

Mr. Ball endorsed these sentiments and wondered why the full Kurron report was still being kept under wraps.

?I am puzzled, everybody is puzzled. The report is the property of the person who generated it but the information has been gleaned from the parties who gave it. What?s so secretive that people don?t know??

He said the Kurron summary had merely highlighted problems staff already knew about.

Mr. Ball called for transparency after noting that health care is a team-orientated environment.

He praised the hospital?s approach of involving staff in the task forces created to tackle the Kurron recommendations.

Shadow Health Minister Michael Dunkley supported Mr. Ball?s call and said he had expected the full report to be tabled.

?I was quite surprised, you wonder why it was not tabled. Then you look at the synopsis you can see why ? it was so damning the Minister could not have tabled the whole thing.?

He said he had very little confidence Government would act on the recommendations.
