Breaking News: Blakeney opens up over son's arrest

MP Glenn Blakeney today urged the public to cooperate with Police during investigations as he opened up about his son’s arrest last week.

In an emotional radio interview this morning Mr. Blakeney said Police arrived at an apartment on his premises in Pembroke around 4.30 a.m. last Friday and knocked down a door.

“The person they were looking for happened to be there and was arrested and when they were searching they found reason to arrest my son. The Police acted extremely professionally.

“They said the main reason they were there was to apprehend an individual that was at the house, not someone that lives there. I do not know the individual. That is the 22-year old they referred to.

“They told me that they wanted him for questioning. During the course of their thorough search they found reason to arrest both of them. Interestingly enough between a 24, 36, 48 hour period they were released of their recognisance.”

Mr. Blakeney, who won the Devonshire North Central seat in the December election, said his family fully cooperated with the Police, who he believed acted in a courteous and professional manner when arresting his son and the other individual.

“We are in a very serious time. The Police have to do what they are empowered to do. I encourage people who might be effected by that to just be right in cooperating.

“If Police are going about their business in a professional way I do not believe there is any harm in that, if you are innocent you will have your day in court and if you are guilty you will be at the mercy of the court.

“I encourage people to be cooperative.”

He added that it was not his son Glenn, the cricket player, who was arrested.

On Friday Police stated: “A 22-year old Pembroke man was arrested in connection with the attempted murders on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and the Boxing Day murder of Aquil Richardson; meantime, a 26-year-old Pembroke man was arrested at the same residence on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.”

They did not release the names of the individuals but the 26-year-old is understood to be Mr. Blakeney’s son.

Mr. Blakeney appeared on this morning’s talk show run by Sen. Thaao Dill on HOTT 107.5. Mr. Blakeney is one of the owners of the station.
