Officers did not turn a blind eye while persons smoked cannabis over the holiday, Police insisted today.

Opposition Senator Michael Dunkley made the claim this week, saying he’d witnessed people smoking under the Crown and Anchor tent at Somerset Cricket Club over Cup Match.

A Police spokesperson today said the event was well-policed, with 150 officers at the grounds over the two days.

“During that time we received no complaints of cannabis smoking from any member of the public. In addition, senior Police officers were at Cup Match for extended periods and did not observe cannabis smoking taking place.”
