Breaking news: EMO compares Hurricane Igor to 2003's Fabian
Hurricane Igor could be as devastating as Fabian was according to experts.
Government has advised residents the impact to the Island could be a serious as Hurricane Fabian’s was in 2003 if Igor follows its current track. Four people died as a result of Hurricane Fabian.
This evening Government said the Emergency Measures Organisation met today.
An EMO spokeswoman said: “The Island can expect tropical storm force winds sometime around midnight Saturday and even worse conditions late Sunday around midnight when the current forecast is for a direct hit.
“Residents are advised to take the warnings seriously as the Island has not experienced such an intense storm since Hurricane Fabian hit Bermuda in 2003.
The EMO said the coming hurricane is “a very big and intense storm” and urged people to start preparing for the hurricane by securing their properties and stocking up on hurricane supplies.
