Breaking News: Pedestrian killed after hit by car on North Shore Road

A pedestrian walking along North Shore Road was hit by a car and killed early this morning.The accident happened near the Mid Atlantic Boat Club in Devonshire around 1.15 a.m.It marks the fourth road fatality in Bermuda this year.

The 27-year-old driver of the car has been arrested.

Police today launched a public appeal to help identify the victim, so next of kin can be informed.

"Details about how the collision occurred are unclear; however it appears that the male pedestrian was walking along North Shore Road when he was struck by the car, which was traveling west on North Shore Road," a Police spokesperson said today.

The man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police describe the victim as dark skinned, of stocky build and estimate his age to be between 30 and 50 years.

At the time of the accident he was wearing a black hooded jacket, beige/khaki pants and new black and white Adidas sneakers.

"The driver of the car, a 27-year-old Hamilton Parish man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving/causing death by dangerous driving," the spokesperson added.

The last road fatality was recorded on Good Friday. Carlton 'CJ' Darrell was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle in Middle Road, Devonshire near the junction with Belvedere Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to this latest accident, or anyone with any information on the identity of the victim to telephone 295-0011.
