Breaking News: Police announce raft of crime-breaking measures
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will now be alerted when persons of interest to Bermuda Police enter the US.
The measure is one of several aimed to beef up Police action against gun crime announced by Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva this afternoon.
He told a press conference that the Island’s Police now have access to the FBI's law enforcement sharing network.
This means that local Police will be able access information on guns, ammunition, the formation and growth of gangs in the US and gang tattoos and symbols. It also means US police will be alerted when persons of interest travel to the US.
The FBI will also offer further training of street level anti-gang measures to teams of two to three Bermuda officers who will be sent to the US shortly.
UK officers are to arrive in Bermuda soon. And there are three people currently in Bermuda interviewing for the role of second Assistant Commissioner. The total cost of the additional support will be $1 million.
