Breaking News: TCD told to stop failing taxis over GPS
TCD has been instructed to stop failing taxis that do not comply with GPS regulations, it was announced this afternoon.
Taxi drivers have been furious that cabs have been failed because their Global Positioning Systems have not been connected under test. Earlier this week more than 300 drivers turned out for a meeting to discuss action over TCD’s stance.
However this afternoon Junior Minister of Tourism and Transport Senator Marc Bean, who has been assigned the task of resolving the conflict, announced he has instructed TCD to stop failing taxis that are not compliant with GPS regulations.
“In the interest of resolving this issue as soon as possible, I have, with the Minister's consent, decided to take a different approach,” he said in a statement that did not say what the different approach would be.
He added: “In addition I am not confident that we are on firm legal ground with regard to the Motor Car Act. Our focus should be on the dispatching company issues as opposed to the individual operators.”
