Breaking News: Tourists threatened and robbed
Two tourists were attacked and robbed as they walked back to their hotel by men wielding a knife.
It is the latest attack on tourists and follows one last week when a couple were also attacked and beaten up near the Fairmont Southampton Princess.
In the latest incident, the victims, a 46-year-old man and his 46-year-old wife, had just got off a bus and were walking along a footpath to the Grotto Bay Beach hotel at about 10.15 p.m. on Saturday.
A Police spokesman said: “They noticed two unknown men walking towards them. As the two men passed by, one of the men attempted to take the female visitor's handbag but was unsuccessful. The same man then demanded money from the male visitor, while brandishing a bladed article.”
The man gave the two men some cash and they then fled on a motorbike towards the Swizzle Inn. The incident happened at about 10.30 p.m.
Police say the suspects are aged between 25 and 30. One was of slim build, approximately 5'4" wearing an open faced helmet with the visor up and a light coloured jacket. The other suspect also wore an open faced helmet with the visor up.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George's Criminal Investigation Unit on 293 2222.
