Brown predicts closer Caricom ties
Bermuda could be involved in a Caribbean single market and economy in the future, Deputy Premier Dr. Ewart Brown has been quoted as saying.
A story on the Caribbean World Radio website quoted Dr. Brown saying in an interview: ?I think there is a role for Bermuda in the single market and economy but it is yet to be figured out.
?The Bermuda economy is different from most of the other economies but that doesn?t mean we cannot work together in some way.?
Dr. Brown was speaking with Caribbean World Radio about his recent attendance at the Caribbean Multi-National Business Conference in the US Virgin Islands.
Bermuda is an associate member of Caricom and this was the first time the Island sent a representative to the conference.
Dr. Brown said his comments were not a definite indication of the Government?s plans.
He told the Caribbean World Radio that Bermuda been very cautious about making any commitments to Caricom.
?But I can tell you that it?s inevitable that over a period of time we will have to find ways to cooperate and to help each other, whether it is the single market and economy and how we play in that, it is up to speculation at this time.?
