Brown puts tax problems behind him

Dr. Ewart Brown

Bermuda HealthCare Services payroll tax troubles have been given a one-time cure by owner Ewart Brown, who ordered yesterday that the practice's outstanding payroll tax debt be paid in full.

Yesterday The Royal Gazette reported that Dr. Brown's medical practice was in the process of paying off a payroll tax debt incurred during a time when management practices were less than satisfactory.

A payment plan was in place and new practice manager Kelley Mckinney, who has been implementing new management practices to ensure the practice does not fall behind again, told The Royal Gazette last week that the balance of the outstanding debt would be paid in full and on schedule in two and a half months.

However yesterday Bermuda HealthCare Services went a step further, with Dr. Brown announcing that he has instructed Ms Mckinney to pay the final $25,000 balance on the debt in full immediately.

"Kelley Mckinney has done a tremendous job restructuring our clinic," he said last night. "She has kept her promise to the payroll tax department and could simply continue to comply with the payment plan.

"However, in the interest of all concerned I have asked her to pay the balance in full today."
