An 18-year-old "bully" received a $1,000 fine after he beat up a shopkeeper.

Christopher DeSilva, of Loyal Hill, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm when he grabbed his victim by the neck and kicked him on May 3.

DeSilva went into the Cycle Care & Repair store on Woodlands Road, became angry and beat the man up, said Crown counsel Cindy Clarke.

When arrested, DeSilva fully admitted what he had done. Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves said: "I've never liked bullies since I was a schoolboy."
