The Bermuda Housing Corporation has not yet determined what criteria will qualify Bermudians for the planned low-cost housing at Southside.

Last Thursday it was announced that Government is joining with Bermuda Homes for People, a non-profit company, to build 200 homes on 16 acres of land at Southside. The scheme, which was initiated by Sonesta hotel owner Clifford Schorer, will see the houses completed in two years time ? with many of them being sold for as little as $195,000.

But Bermudians hoping to move quickly to secure one of the properties were disappointed to learn the BHC is not yet accepting applications. understands the BHC will not take applications until the qualifying standards have been outlined. That has not happened yet and it is unclear when they will be drawn up.

It is also understood that the public will be informed once the guidelines are drawn up. BHC general manager Vance Campbell did not return calls on the issue on Monday.

Ground will be broken on the project in January and completion is scheduled for April, 2006.
