Minister of Community Affairs and Sport Dale Butler believes a National Youth Commission is the way forward to deal with nuisance youths.

Mr. Butler believes the setting up of a commission is among the best ways of dealing with problems resulting from young people being out late at night.

"Now that I'm a Minister, the idea of a National Youth Commission is on the front burner," said Mr. Butler, in response to reported arrests of young people for drugs and alcohol offences at Devonshire Bay at the weekend.

"But we can't cure the problems of our young people until we can determine the causes.

"And it is very important that we find the right solution for everyone, for the benefit of the entire community.

"As a Minister, I have a responsibility to listen to all views whether they are in agreement with my own or not, and then make a decision.

"No decision has been taken at this stage. We are currently looking at all options with a National Youth Commission being one of them."

Mr. Butler said that as a backbencher he was in favour of a National Youth Commission and not in favour of a Government law implementing a curfew, believing a "parent initiated curfew" was a better approach.
