Future American home owners may be able to buy a piece of the rock - in Florida

Earlier this month an American developer announced plans to build ‘Somerset Beach', a Bermuda-styled town on the Northwest coast of Florida.

EBSCO Industries Inc revealed the new resort town would be “highlighting the Bermuda influence”.

The plans for the 599 resort homes and extensive commercial centre all feature distinctive Bermuda-style roofs and architectural features traditional to the Island. The Bermuda replica will be located just east of Seaside, Florida in Walton County.

In a Press release, EBSCO, an Alabama-based corporation, acknowledged deriving the name and the style of Somerset Beach from Bermuda.

But it said that the new development would also be paying homage to Walton County, Florida where the development would be located.

“Somerset Beach will honour all that we love about the area,” said Jason Comer, vice president and general manager of EBSCO Gulf Coast Development, Inc.

“As part of our town's uniqueness, we intend to create a tradition of sunset-related community events for our residents and guests to enjoy.”

The Bermuda imitating real estate development is to be located on a Gulf of Mexico beachfront and will feature beach cottages, courtyard villas and private gardens in addition to close to 100,000 square feet of commercial and civic space.

EBSCO, which has already built the towns of Seaside and Rosemary Beach, both in Walton County, is expected to submit plans for Somerset Beach to county officials in the coming months.
