Car owners seek out free parking spots

More and more people are parking their cars on the outskirts of the City of Hamilton saying that it is not only convenient but also free.

During the day, a stretch of Dutton Avenue is consistently filled with cars and people walk to work from there to avoid paying.

Because people have chosen to park outside of town, places like Bulls Head car park are rarely full. spoke with several people who have been using Dutton Avenue to park.

One woman said that she used to park in the lot behind Bulls Head car park but when construction began on the Bulls Head structure, people began parking outside and the lots were always full.

?I like to park here though because I like the walk,? she said.

?It?s convenient and it?s a better walk then from Bulls Head to Victoria Street where I work. Plus, it?s free.?

She added that most people are parking on the outskirts of town, such as Dutton Avenue and on the side of the Tennis Stadium, because it is both convenient and free.

One woman, who was with her grandson, said that she usually takes the bus.

But, when it is her week to pick up her grandson, it is more convenient to take the car and park on Dutton Avenue.

She added that parking along the strip of road is not illegal as long as cars park off the road.

When asked why he parks outside of town one man answered simply: ?It?s free.?
