The Royal Gazette urges everyone to carry a donor card and inform their next of kin of their wishes.

Talking to relatives is vital, as even if someone signs up for a card, organs cannot be removed for donation without the permission of family members first.

Donor cards, provided by the New England Organ Bank (NEOB), are free and can be picked up from Post Offices, doctor's surgeries and TCD.

They contain a small red sticker, which can be attached to a driving licence.

Alternatively, you can cut this organ donor coupon (right) out and keep it in your wallet or purse. Both the NEOB and Bermuda Organ and Tissue Donor Council said it will be recognised.

However discussing the issue with relatives was paramount.
