Catch the ferry with the Premier

Two weeks after taking the bus, Premier Alex Scott will encourage locals to use the public transportation system by taking a ferry to work.

Mr. Scott will be taking the 7:55 a.m. ferry from Rockaway on Wednesday morning. The Premier is doing it as part of the sustainable development ?Changing Our Course? initiative. He will take a mini-bus from Granaway Heights to the ferry stop.

During last week?s public meetings on the sustainable development plan, Mr. Scott said he would be taking public transportation in order to ?raise the consciousness of all members of the public so that we each consider how we can impact on the quality of life in Bermuda for generations to come?.

He added that sustainable development could not be achieved solely through Government initiatives and would require Bermudians to become involved and make conscious decisions to change aspects of their lifestyle.

?I encourage the public of Bermuda to join me on Wednesday and use an alternative mode of transport to get to work,? he said. ?What a wonderful way to start the Cup Match holiday.?

The second of five public forums on sustainable development will be held on Bermuda Industrial Union Hall tomorrow. The topic will be ?Transforming Governance and the Public Sector?.

The forums offer members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the sustainable development plan and to voice their concerns and suggestions.

Attendees will also get the chance to enter the Premier?s car-pool raffle. One lucky resident will win travel to and from work in the Premier?s official car, GP1. They will share the chauffeured commute chatting with Mr.Scott.
