Causeway closure cited in not guilty plea

A man claimed he could not have stolen a generator in St. George?s because Hurricane Fabian damaged the Causeway at the time of the alleged incident. Shannon Sommersall, 37, of Derwent Lane, Devonshire, pleaded not guilty to stealing a Coleman generator from Benson Hudson between September 19 and September 20. He also denied breaking and entering Louise Outerbridge?s St. George?s home and stealing $1,700 in cash on September 19. Sommersall claimed that because the Causeway had been damaged during the storm he would not have been able to get to St. George?s to commit the alleged offences.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves remanded Sommersall in custody for trial on January 26.
