Charges laid in machete attack

David Skinner John Anderson arriving at Magistrates' Court to be charged with maim with intent after last weekend's Court Street machete attack.

The man accused of last weekend?s daylight machete attack on Court Street appeared in Magistrates? Court on Friday.

John Sinclair Anderson of St. Monica?s Road, Pembroke, was charged with intent to maim with the intent to wound Vincent Tuzo.

The incident occurred on Court Street during the afternoon of October 15.

Mr. Tuzo was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by a member of the public for wounds he sustained to his hands, forearms and head. He was released on October 17.

Anderson was also charged with possession of a machete.

He did not have to enter a plea for these charges as they willbe tried in Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Anderson, who also pleaded guilty to a road traffic matter before leaving the court.

He was charged with travelling 70 kph on August 4.

Anderson chose to pay the $500 fine rather than serve time.

He asked for two weeks to pay, however, saying he had to ?make phone calls? and was worried that applications for phone privileges at Westgate would take some time.

He will return to Magistrates? Court on November 4.
