Hotel developers Carlson last night revealed they aim to add an office block to a luxury Regent hotel planned for Hamilton.

The company has scaled back the hotel room and condo aspect at the Par-la-Ville car park site.

The original plan had been for 120 hotel rooms, 40 privately-owned condos and 40 condominiums of two rooms each which can be leased by the owners as hotel rooms.

But in a company press release issued last night the five star complex is set to have 116 hotel rooms, a fine dining restaurant, a spa, meeting rooms, 28 luxury condos and a 75,000 square foot office building.

The Carlson Group, one of the largest private tourism conglomerates in the world, also owns the Radisson cruise ship group, Park Plaza Hotels, and the Carlson Wagonlit travel agent business.

The release also said hotel guests would be able to use the Newstead?s luxury condos and spa and the Belmont golf course after crossing Hamilton Harbour by water taxi.

The two sites are also being developed by Bermudian development company Pembak who signed a memorandum of understanding with the Corporation of Hamilton about the Par-La-Ville car park site in February.

But last night Hamilton Mayor Lawson Mapp said no firm decision had been made about the site.

He said the Corporation would be looking at the plan in the next few days after Development Committee Chairman Reginald Minors returns to the island.

He added: ?I have a meeting with the Premier tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. and we will talk about that.?

The new details about the Regent plan emerged following a visit by Deputy Premier Ewart Brown to Carlson?s Minneapolis H.Q. last week.

He met CEO Marilyn Carlson Nelson and other company chiefs.

The press release confirmed the company was interested in adding some of its five other cruise ships after sending its upmarket to Bermuda for the last two years.

It said Dr. Brown had suggested a redeveloped Royal Navy Dockyard might host the ships.

More corporate incentive travel plans to the island were suggested by the company.

Carlson?s Government Travel division, which currently serves departments of the U.S. Government, hopes to show the Bermuda government how to reduce travel costs while improving service to official travellers.
