Coastal property owners are expected to benefit from erosion specialists who are coming to the Island on Sunday for one week to survey damage done by Hurricane Fabian.

The team, led by Dr. David Smith, includes a coastal engineer, an environmental engineer, a geologist and an hurricane specialist.

Minister of the Environment Neletha Butterfield said the group from Smith Warner International visited the Island in July to assess coastal erosion and will now compare that data with conditions since Hurricane Fabian.

Where appropriate they will estimate the cost to repair and reinstate damaged coastal infrastructure.

Ms Butterfield said the consultants are highly qualified with a wealth of experience in coastal engineering.

"It seems to make very good sense to give the public access to this expertise, especially property owners struggling with the problems associated with the design, repair and installation of shoreline defences and sea walls," she said.

"The consultants can provide expert advice based on their knowledge of best practice and with reference to the most up-to-date information on the impact of Fabian."

The Ministry of the Environment has set aside September 19 and 20th for free on site consultations with landowners and their architects and or engineers.

"As evident last Friday, we will never be able to combat the immense fury and power of a hurricane sea surge, but good design and engineering can help to considerably reduce the danger and the damage."
