Cold snap continues

It may have felt like temperatures hit records lows yesterday, but it wasn?t the coldest day on record.

Temperatures dipped to as low as 48 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday during a hailstorm in St. George?s, but the lowest ever recorded for Bermuda was 44 degrees in February, 1950.

A Weather Service spokesman said the Island was not out of the clear yet and could expect a few more blustery cold winter days.

?It will slowly warm up but but it will take a couple of days to get back to the average temperature,? he said.

Yesterday also saw strong gusts of wind around the Island.

Offshore sensors recorded gusts as high at 67 knots ? just three knots shy of hurricane strength.

There were reports of power outages in Smith?s Parish, but these could not be confirmed.
