Communication was disrupted across the Island during Fabian and hampered Police operations.

During the storm, Islanders were frustrated by the lack of information as the Island's TV and radio stations went down while the emergency broadcast station did not work until today.

Government spokeswoman Beverle Lottimore said the system had been tested before Fabian hit but then DeFontes broadcasting had a problem with a back-up generator.

Premier Alex Scott apologised and said of the problem: "Never before has our system been tested as it was in Fabian."
