Crowd disarms man

A machete-wielding man ran after being disarmed by members of the public on Queen Street on Tuesday evening.

Police said the suspect brandished the machete outside of Casey's Cocktail Lounge but an employee said the man did not enter the bar because it was closed at the time of the incident.

She said that the doors were already locked at 10.20 p.m. when the man got into an argument outside the lounge on Queen Street.

Apparently the man brandished a machete, which was taken from him by members of the public who had exited the bar. Police were called to the scene but the young man had already run away. There were no injuries stemming from the incident and the weapon was recovered.

The suspect is known by Police and an investigation is underway.

In a separate incident, an unknown person stole an engine from a boat moored in Jew's Bay,Southampton earlier this week. A man contacted Police on Tuesday evening when he discovered that his six-horsepower engine had been taken from his dinghy.
