Bermuda's six regular cruise ships will back on the Island next week after an absence of one week due to Hurricane Fabian.

The restoration of service will be good news for businesses across the Island hit by hotel cancellations and the temporary closures of a number of properties.

And container ships are running regularly, although the departure from Bermuda of one regular vessel is being delayed slightly to ensure it is fully laden with empty containers to prevent them blocking up the docks.

Tourism Minister Renee Webb said the cruise lines had been told there would be delays and passengers would be inconvenienced because the Causeway is not fully open, but they still wanted to come to the Island.

"Clearly it is very good news for businesses. We are to host them and from an infrastructure point of view we can do that.

"And from a tourism point of view, we are glad to be back to some semblance of normality.

"What is important, is that the cruise ships have the confidence to come, and we have the confidence that we can welcome them.

"We've told them that with bridge not being fixed that their passengers will probably be inconvenienced and that we have put on ferries from St. George's for them to use rather than the bus.

"But actually that will be something of a treat using the ferries. They have wanted to come back all this time."
