Attorney General Dame Lois Browne-Evans could be out of action for six weeks after breaking her ankle in a fall at home.

She returned home from hospital on Friday after the accident on her veranda on Monday.

She said: “It was very painful at first. They said six weeks to heal. I can't put any weight on it.”

Dame Lois said the Solicitor General would fill in for her legal duties and the Premier might also appoint someone as an acting minister.

On Friday Opposition MP Cole Simmons called for Dame Lois to lead the fight to install an elevator to help the disabled and wheelchair-bound people get access to the House of Assembly.

She said: “Maybe this will galvanise them.”

House and Grounds committee chairman Walter Lister said a committee had been looking at putting in an elevator and a location had been identified.

But Mr. Lister was reluctant to give details.

He said: “I honestly can't say when it will be done. It is in its infancy. We have been working on this for about nine months now.”
