Former Attorney General Dame Lois Browne-Evans was slapped with a $450 fine after pleading guilty to several traffic offences in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

She was charged with the offences after an incident which took place on April 27, 2003. At the time, the court heard, the former leader of the Progressive Labour Party was driving along Dundonald Street towards the junction with Princess Street.

She began to make the turn onto Princess Street, but Crown counsel Anthony Blackman told the court Dame Lois then abruptly veered back onto Dundonald Street - directly into the path of a livery cycle who did not have time to get out of the way.

Represented by lawyer and Government Senate Leader Michael Scott, Dame Lois pleaded guilty to the fines of driving without due care and having no valid driver's licence.

She was fined $350 for the charge of driving without due care, and a further $100 for driving without a licence.
