Eugene “Jinx” Darrell appeared in Magistrates' Court on Thursday after Police officers watched him climb through a window of the Bank of Bermuda.

Darrell was charged with four counts of breaking and entering the bank and the Argus Insurance office building. He pleaded not guilty to the first count of breaking into Argus and stealing $335 on the night of November 10. However, he admitted breaking into Argus between November 10 and 11 and stealing $6. Security cameras showed a man entering the office building by pulling at the front door in the early hours of November 10 and 11.

Darrell then pleaded guilty to breaking into the Bank of Bermuda Colonial building between November 10 and 11 and stealing a total of $33.

He finally admitted breaking into the bank with intent to steal on November 17 by climbing through a window shortly after 8 p.m. - unaware that he was being watched by Police officers.

When Police arrested him after he climbed back out the window, he told them: “It wasn't me.”

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves sentenced Darrell to 12 months in jail for each of counts two, three and four, to run concurrently. Darrell was remanded to face trial on the first count on January 5 at Magistrates' Court.
