A dead body was found by a security worker in the old wing of the hospital yesterday.

The body has been identified as that of 26-year-old Rashun Earl Smith of Pembroke.

Mr. Smith's lifeless body was found in a vacated office, which was previously used by the Social Services Department and previously as an out-patient psychiatric unit for King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at about 7.45 a.m. by a security guard.

Other than the exit from the forensics lab and one other office, along a long corridor, the area was no longer in use.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said Police are not treating the death as suspicious at this time, however the matter was still under investigation.

The Bermuda Police Service extended their deepest sympathies to the Smith family.

Bermuda Hospitals Board chief executive officer Stephanie Reid, verified that the young man's body had been found in the hospital.

"We can confirm that the body of a male, who was not an in-patient at the hospital, was found by hospital security on the grounds of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at approximately 7.45 this morning," said Mrs. Reid.

"Police and hospital authorities were notified immediately and the Police have begun their investigation.

"We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased.

"It would be inappropriate for us to comment further until they have been notified."
