Delayed mail now on Island

The Postmaster General has announced that a shipment of delayed surface mail out of the UK dating back to May has just been cleared for delivery in Bermuda.

It arrived in Bermuda via Florida.

Surface mail which is shipped from the UK usually takes two months to arrive in Bermuda but the delay in this case was caused by an external payment dispute between the British Postal Service and its shipping agents.

A spokesman said the delivery of the mail once it arrived in Bermuda was compounded by a "Hold" order imposed by the shipping agents, as well as problems caused to the Bermuda Airmail facilities by Hurricane Fabian.

The Bermuda Postal Service has now received the go ahead to deliver the mail and the Postmaster wishes to advise residents the letters are being delivered this week.
