Derrick Burgess, the ruling party's candidate for district 5, is president of the Bermuda Industrial Union and a well known labour leader in the Caribbean and international arena. He first entered Parliament five years ago when he won a by election in February 1998 to represent the old Hamilton East. He has a diploma in hotel management and has worked in management positions at Grotto Bay Hotel and Palmetto Bay Hotel. Derrick Burgess is married to the former Brenda Walker of St. George's. They have two children and two foster children.
