A dishwasher already serving a prison sentence extended his stay with a guilty plea to marijuana possession.

Police and a canine unit searched the Hamilton Parish home of Maxwell M. Smith, 34, and found more than four grams of marijuana.

They also uncovered an electronic scale, used to weigh the drugs.

Only Smith?s girlfriend was home when police arrived.

Initially she was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, but later in the investigation when Smith was apprehended, he took full responsibility for the drugs and exonerated her.

Smith told the court, ?I made a stupid mistake.?

He was sentenced to six months, a term which will begin after his current sentence ends in August of next year.
