Disruptions expected during bridge repairs
Construction on Swing Bridge in St. George's will begin in the first week of July.
Lane closures, restricted access, and delays across the bridge may occur until next April while the work takes place.
Additionally, the eastern section of Kindley Field Park will be used as the Temporary Construction Staging Area from June 2002 until June 2003. The area begins immediately west of the south approach to Swing Bridge. It includes the area between the shoreline and Kindley Field Road, and extends westward approximately 300 feet. All public access to the area will be restricted. The area will be fully reinstated at the completion of the bridge, Ministry of Works and Engineering reported in a press release.
The work will include an overall strengthening of the bridge, a replacement of the mechanical drive system, a resurfacing of the deck, and a new computer controlled opening system.
The Ministry apologises for any inconvenience that may arise from the works.
